Each week during Wellness Month, we are highlighting resources to reinforce the City Council Priority: Community Health, Safety, Wellness, and Belonging and acknowledge the United States Surgeon General’s advisory on the Loneliness Epidemic in our country. Social connection is vital to community health, and we offer many ways to connect together. This week, we’re focusing on resources for physical wellness to support both body and mind.

Open Spaces and Parks

The City has nearly 4,000 acres of open spaces and parks for you to explore, stay active, and have fun! Play tennis or pickleball at Mitchell Park, go for a hike at Foothills Nature Preserve, or simply enjoy the fresh air at any one of our parks. Our open space preserves offer picnic areas, lakes, and miles of trails for walking and cycling. Plus, enjoy other recreation services such as swimming at Rinconada Pool and more.

Health Events at the Library

The Palo Alto City Library provides several free-to-attend health events at various branches. Attend the weekly Mindfulness Meditation sessions at Mitchell Park Library to improve your mental and physical health or participate in Tai Chi on Sundays at Rinconada Library to develop your flexibility and balance — no registration required!

Register for Enjoy!

Our Enjoy! catalog offers classes for all ages and skill levels in dance, soccer, basketball, ice skating, tennis, and more. Resident registration is now open. Non-resident registration opens at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 29. Register today to improve your fitness and learn some new skills!

Adult Fitness with BOOST!

Join our community and support your healthy lifestyle with BOOST! Palo Alto, a diverse array of adult fitness classes. The BOOST! fitness schedule includes Pilates, cardio dance, total body conditioning, and Zumba. To join, purchase a membership pass from Enjoy! Online.

More Online Resources

Proper nutrition and rest are key to keeping your body healthy. A good diet and sleep schedule can help you lower the risk of chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend tips for healthy eating and better sleep.
